Diminutivo

Diminutivo means as much as reduction form or lessening. In writing, we do not use it very often, but people use it when they speak in many dialects.

For example, they change the word la casa to la casita to express that it is a small house. El perro often becomes el perrito when expressing that it is a hearty dog. But it can also mean that it is a small dog, depending on the context.

The formation is actually very simple, as nouns ending in -o are appended with -ito, and those ending in -a are appended with -ita.
For example:
La casa = la casita
El perro = el perrito.
But note that the pronunciation rules still apply!
la chica thus becomes la chiquita and el coche becomes el cochecito.
