Romanian · Cases: Genitive, Dative, Vocative
Vocative: Domnule! Prietene!
The vocative is the form used to call or address someone directly.
- Many masculine nouns add -e: prieten → prietene, băiat → băiete, vecin → vecine, tânăr → tinere.
- Others add -ule (the article -ul + e): domn → domnule, om → omule, fiu → fiule, bunic → bunicule.
- Nouns ending in -ă usually stay the same: doamnă, mamă, tată. The ending -o (iubito, fato) sounds familiar and affectionate.
- In the plural, add -lor: copiilor, dragilor, doamnelor și domnilor.
After dragă the noun is still vocative (Dragă prietene), but in a title only the first word changes (Domnule profesor). Most first names now stay unchanged (Andrei!, Maria!), although traditional forms such as Ioane or Radule are still heard.
