Polish · Verb Conjugation
Irregular verbs: być, jeść, wiedzieć, móc
A few very common verbs are irregular, so it is best to learn their present tense by heart.
- być (to be): jestem, jesteś, jest, jesteśmy, jesteście, są
- jeść (to eat): jem, jesz, je, jemy, jecie, jedzą
- wiedzieć (to know a fact): wiem, wiesz, wie, wiemy, wiecie, wiedzą
- chcieć (to want): chcę, chcesz, chce, chcemy, chcecie, chcą
- móc (can, to be able): mogę, możesz, może, możemy, możecie, mogą
jeść and wiedzieć follow the same pattern (jem/wiem, jesz/wiesz, jedzą/wiedzą). In móc the g of mogę and mogą becomes ż in the other forms. chcieć and móc are usually followed by an infinitive: Chcę spać (I want to sleep), Mogę pomóc (I can help).
