Question words with case
Turkish question words take the same case endings as the words that answer them, so the answer mirrors the question:
- nerede (where, at which place) → Masada. (On the table.); nereye (where to) → Okula. (To school.); nereden (where from) → İşten. (From work.)
- kim (who) → kime (to whom), kimi (whom), kimin (whose), kiminle (with whom), kimden (from whom)
- ne (what) → neyle (with what, by what)
- kaç (how many), kaçta (at what time), hangi (which), ne zaman (when), nasıl (how), neden (why)
The question word usually stands right before the verb: Sinemaya kiminle gittin? (Who did you go to the cinema with?) It already makes the sentence a question, so no mi is added.
Examples
- Otobüs durağı nerede?
- Yarın kiminle buluşacaksın?
- Bu kitabı kime vereceksin?
