Turkish · Questions
mi with personal endings
The question particle mi is written as a separate word and follows vowel harmony: mi / mı / mu / mü after e-i, a-ı, o-u, ö-ü. Where the personal ending goes depends on the form before it:
- After nouns, adjectives, -iyor, -ecek, the aorist and -miş, the ending moves onto mi: Öğrenci misin? (Are you a student?), Geliyor musun? (Are you coming?), Gelecek misiniz? (Will you come?)
- After the past -dı and the conditional -sa, the ending stays on the verb and mi stays bare: Gittin mi? (Did you go?), Açsam mı? (Should I open it?)
- The endings are ben -yim, sen -sin, biz -yiz, siz -siniz: miyim, misin, miyiz, misiniz. With o and onlar, mi stays bare.
