Verbs are words that show an action, occurrence, or state of being. Almost every sentence in Turkish requires a verb.
The basic form of a verb is its infinitive. All Turkish verbs in infinitive state end with either -mak or -mek
By removing the -mak / -mek ending you can get the "root" of the verb.
They can be made negative, potential ("can"), or impotential ("cannot"). Negation is indicated by adding the infix -me/-ma following the root of the verb.
Turkish verbs indicate tense (present, past, future, and aorist), mood (conditional, imperative, inferential, necessitative, and optative), and aspect.
Verbs in Turkish can indicate six grammatical persons (three singular and three plural), various voices (active and passive, reflexive, reciprocal, and causative), and a large number of grammatical tenses through appending.
Verbs also have a number of participial forms which are verbal adjectives and verbal nouns formed from verbs. The most important function of participles is to form modifying phrases or adjectives.
