Reflexive Verbs

The reflexive verbs are created by adding reflexive pronouns SA or SI to the infinitive.

Form: infinitive + SI or SA

"Sa" and "si" are not usually translated into English.
In some cases, we can replace "sa" and "si" with SEBA (=a longer version of a reflexive pronoun, it means "oneself.")

Some verbs are always reflexive, so we have to use them with sa or si.

navariť si – to cook for yourself
navariť – to cook for someone else

A reflexive verb is a verb whose direct object is the same as its subject. If the subject is expressed, "sa" or "si" moves before the verb.
Umývam sa. = I'm washing myself (= the entire self).
Umývam si ruky. I'm washing my hands for/to myself.

Position
"Sa" and "si" are usually behind the verb, but that doesn't always have to be true when the reflexive verb stands in a sentence - it can move before the main verb.
Umyjem si ruky. – I wash my hands.
Musím si umyť ruky. - I have to wash my hands for myself. (there is a modal verb)

Sometimes it even moves before "musieť":
My si musíme umyť ruky (We have to wash hands for ourselves.)
