Linking and Adverbs: 〜で and 〜に

A na-adjective changes its ending depending on what comes next:

〜で links it to the next description, like "and": この部屋は静かで、明るいです (This room is quiet and bright). It can also give a light reason: 公園はにぎやかで、楽しいです (The park is lively, so it's fun).
〜に turns it into an adverb that describes a verb: 静かに話す (speak quietly), 上手に歌う (sing well), きれいにする (make clean, tidy up).

A quick test: if a verb follows the gap (話す, 書く, 使う, する), use に. If a comma and another description follow, use で.

Remember that きれい is a na-adjective: きれいで and きれいに, never きれくて or きれく. Compare the i-adjectives, which use 安くて (and) and 早く (adverb).
