Subject & Object Pronouns

English personal pronouns have two forms. Use the subject form for the person or thing that does the action, usually before the verb: I, you, he, she, it, we, they. Use the object form after a verb or after a preposition such as for, with or to: me, you, him, her, it, us, them.

  • he/him is for a man or boy, she/her for a woman or girl, it for a thing or an animal, they/them for two or more.
  • you and it look the same in both positions.
  • In a pair, use the form you would use alone: My friends and I went out (I went out). The teacher asked Tom and me (asked me).

Example: She loves him, and he loves her.
