Present Continuous

In English, the Present Continuous is used to describe actions that are happening right now or around the present moment. It is also used for future planned actions.

The Present Continuous is formed using the verb "to be" in the present tense, followed by the verb + ing.

Basic structure of Present Continuous:

  • I am + verb + ing → I am working, I am playing
  • You/We/They are + verb + ing → You are eating, They are running
  • He/She/It is + verb + ing → He is reading, She is writing

The Present Continuous follows a consistent pattern, as shown in the following examples.

    You are watching
    He/She/It is watching
    We are watching
    They are watching

    He/She/It is eating
    We are eating
