Past Continuous
The Past Continuous is used to describe actions that were happening at a specific moment in the past. It is often used to emphasize the ongoing nature of an action, describe past actions that were interrupted, or provide background information.
The Past Continuous is formed using the following structure:
- Subject + was/were + present participle (verb + -ing).
Basic structure of Past Continuous:
- Affirmative: Subject + was/were + present participle → I was working, They were playing.
- Negative: Subject + was/were + not + present participle → I was not working, They were not playing.
- Question: Was/Were + subject + present participle? → Was I working? Were they playing?
The Past Continuous emphasizes the duration or ongoing nature of an action in the past.
