The Counted Noun (Tamyīz)
The counted noun (tamyīz) takes a different form depending on the number:
- 3-10: plural: ثلاثة كتب (three books), ست مدن (six cities).
- 11-99: singular in the accusative. Masculine nouns add ا: عشرون طالبا (twenty students), بخمسين درهما (for fifty dirhams). Nouns ending in ة do not change: ثمانون سنة (eighty years).
- كم (how many) works like 11-99: كم كتابا اشتريت؟ (How many books did you buy?)
- 100, 1000 and their multiples: singular in the genitive: مئة مسجد (a hundred mosques), ألف كتاب (a thousand books), مئتا عامل (two hundred workers), ثلاثة آلاف شخص (three thousand people).
The gap shows the noun in another form: write the form the number needs.
