Declension and Cases
The declension of adjectives depends on the gender, number and grammatical case of the noun they develop.
The process of declension:
1. determine the model adjective (Slovak has five models)
2. determine gender (feminine, masculine, neuter)
3. determine grammatical case (Slovak has 6 cases)
Model adjectives for declension:
pekný (nice) – hard ending
cudzí (foreign) – soft ending
páví (peacock) – animal adjectives (NOTE! the rhythmic rule is not observed)
otcov (father's) – possessive adjectives, masculine
matkin (mother's) – possessive adjectives, feminine
Grammatical cases:
1. Nominative: Kto? Čo? (who? what?)
2. Genitive: Koho? Čoho? (without whom? without what?)
3. Dative: Komu? Čomu? (to whom? to what?)
4. Accusative: Koho? Čo? (I see whom? I see what?)
6. Locative: O kom? O čom? (about whom? about what?)
7. Instrumental: S kým? S čím? (with whom? with what?)
