Superlativ

Ein Superlativ hebt die Spitze (oder das untere Ende) einer Gruppe hervor. Setze the davor und oft in oder of danach: the highest mountain in the world, the worst day of my life.

  • Einsilbige Adjektive erhalten -est: high → highest, cheap → cheapest.
  • Die Rechtschreibregeln sind dieselben wie beim Komparativ: big → biggest, funny → funniest, large → largest.
  • Längere Adjektive verwenden most: the most beautiful, the most popular.
  • Unregelmäßig: good → the best, bad → the worst.

Verwende in bei Orten und Gruppen (in the world, in our class) und of bei Zeit und Mengen (of the year, of the three). The ... I know und the ... I've ever seen sind ebenfalls sehr gebräuchlich.

Beispiele

  • This is the oldest church in the city.
  • July is the hottest month of the year here.
  • It's the most expensive shop in town.
  • He is the best player in the club.
