Indirekte Fragen und Aufforderungen

Indirekte Fragen verwenden die Wortstellung eines Aussagesatzes: Zuerst kommt das Subjekt, dann das Verb, ohne do/does/did und ohne Fragezeichen.

  • “Where do you live?” → she asked me where I lived
  • “What's your name?” → he asked what my name was
  • “Where did you go?” → she asked where I had gone (das einfache Präteritum went ist ebenfalls in Ordnung)

Bei Ja/Nein-Fragen fügt man if oder whether hinzu: “Are you coming?” → he asked if I was coming.

Die Zeitenverschiebung funktioniert wie bei Aussagesätzen (can → could, will → would). Wenn die Tatsache noch immer zutrifft, ist auch das Präsens in Ordnung.

Bitten und Befehle verwenden tell/ask + Person + to + Verb: “Please wait.” → she told us to wait. Bei einem negativen Befehl steht not vor to: “Don't touch it!” → he told me not to touch it.
