A, an oder some? Zählbare und unzählbare Nomen

Verwende a oder an nur mit einem zählbaren Nomen. Nutze a vor Konsonantenlaut (a book, a university) und an vor Vokallaut (an apple, an hour, an honest person).

Unzählbare Nomen haben keinen Plural und stehen nie mit a/an. In positiven Sätzen, Angeboten und Bitten verwendet man some mit ihnen:

  • advice, information, news, furniture, luggage, work, homework, research, help, money, bread, milk, weather
  • Sie gab mir some advice (nicht an advice). Wir brauchen some furniture (nicht furnitures). Möchtest du some cheese?

Um über eine einzelne Sache zu sprechen, nutze stattdessen ein zählbares Wort (a tip, a sofa, a job) oder a piece of + das unzählbare Nomen: a piece of information. News endet auf -s, ist aber unzählbar: some good news.

Beispiele

  • Can I give you some advice?
  • I need a new job.
  • We bought some furniture and a new lamp.
  • Here's a piece of information you might need.
  • He's an old friend of mine.
