Too und enough

Too bedeutet mehr, als gut oder möglich ist. Es steht vor einem Adjektiv oder Adverb:

  • This coffee is too hot to drink. You're driving too fast.

Enough bedeutet so viel, wie man braucht. Es steht nach einem Adjektiv oder Adverb, aber vor einem Nomen:

  • He isn't old enough to drive. (nicht enough old)
  • There aren't enough chairs. We don't have enough time.

Beide folgen oft mit to + Verb oder for + Person oder Sache: too heavy for me to carry, big enough for four people. Too hat meist eine negative Bedeutung: too expensive heißt, man kann oder will es nicht kaufen.

Beispiele

  • The tea is too hot.
  • Are you old enough to vote?
  • We don't have enough money for a new car.
  • It's too late to call him now.
  • This bag isn't big enough for all my books.
